Orthopedic Consultations

Your orthopedic specialist will evaluate your joint and or spine depending on what the problem is and how you describe your pain, but the most common tests you can expect from your visit consist of the following:

  • A thorough medical history evaluation
  • A physical examination
  • X-rays
  • Additional tests, as needed

Your medical history needs to be evaluated by your orthopedic specialist to assess the status of your health and the possible causes of your joint and or spine pain. Additionally, your history will help your specialist determine your level of joint and or spine pain and how it interferes with your daily life.

Your physician will ask you to perform a number of physical activities during the physical examination, including analyzing your standing posture, gait (your walking style), how you sit and lie down, which will help confirm the diagnosis.

Pain Management

At our pain management practice, our goal is to help patients alleviate their pain through minimally invasive procedures. Our team will provide a thorough evaluation and accurate diagnosis to determine the source of the pain and then treat it with targeted safe interventional techniques. Our focus is on interventional spine therapies rather than relying on heavy pain medication such as narcotics or opioids.

Facet Injections

Facet injections are a minimally invasive procedure used to treat pain in the spinal joints. By injecting a local anesthetic and/or steroid into the affected joint, the procedure provides relief from pain, inflammation, and swelling. Our team is trained in performing accurate and safe facet injections to help patients regain their mobility and reduce pain.

Epidural Injections

Our specialists use advanced techniques to deliver safe and effective epidural injections. Epidural injections are a common interventional procedure used to relieve pain in the neck, back, and legs. They are administered by injecting a local anesthetic into the epidural area surrounding the spinal cord.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injection

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.

PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of your own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your injured or diseased body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.

Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA)

This non-surgical treatment uses radiofrequency energy to disrupt nerve function and prevent the transmission of pain signals from the injured joint. The procedure begins with a local anesthetic to numb the skin, followed by inserting a thin needle near the affected facet joint. Fluoroscopy, a type of x-ray, is used to ensure proper placement of the needle. Your doctor will then confirm the needle’s position by stimulating the nerve, which may cause muscle twitching and temporary pain. Once the needle is in place, the area is numbed, and radiofrequency energy is used to disrupt the nerve function.
After the RFA, you will be monitored for up to 30 minutes and given discharge instructions. You may experience some soreness for 1-4 days, which is normal, and your back may feel numb, weak, or itchy for a couple of weeks. However, full pain relief normally comes in two to three weeks. It’s important to note that nerves regenerate after an RFA, and it varies how long this takes. If your pain returns, another RFA can be performed.
